Hundreds of amateur and professional swimmers will take the plunge when the second series of the Body Science Great Australian Swim Series  rolls into Sydney on Australia Day, Thursday 26 January 2012.  The final of the series is being held on the doorstep of the Sydney Opera House in Farm Cove on our national holiday.

Join in the celebrations at Bert Payne Reserve Newport Beach between 7am and 11am at the Australia Day Breakfast on the Beach. Fun for all the family including face painting, thong throwing, fairy floss, a treasure hunt and jumping castle. Special guest – Maria Venuti, our Australia Day Ambassador.

A true-blue salute to our great southern land will take place at beautiful Bicentennial Park on Australia Day, when a program of FREE family entertainment is sure to make it a ripper of a day! Enjoy a fun day out for the family with entertainment and great prizes to win!

This 26 January, a corker Australia Day experience isn’t far from reach with:

Australia Day sees NSW’s favourite water park transform with fair dinkum Australiana. Children will be greeted with a free Aussie temporary tattoo and classic Aussie tunes will take over the airwaves throughout the day so guests can stay cool to classic tracks.

Bakers Delight will say thank you to its loyal supporters this Australia Day by giving away fresh baked Mini Cheesymite Scrolls to customers on 26 January.

Nirvana Personal Training is putting on a FREE Australia Day event at the Grange Library Park. The Event Commences at 10.00am and is for families. There is a game of cricket happening with adults and kids and a boxing class for those after some more vigorous exercise.

Some of the biggest names in international skateboarding (including Renton Millar, Corbin Harris and Adrian Jones) will descend on Newcastle this Australia Day weekend, to compete in the Hurley Australian Bowl-Riding Championships at the city’s new Empire Park Skate Bowl at Bar Beach.

The free-to-watch comp will take place over three days (JAN 26-JAN 28), with four divisions – Junior under 18’s, Open Female, Pro/Am Open and Masters 40+ – plus budding skaters can enjoy free Learn To Ride clinics lead by the pros.

Drawn to Screen, the summer screening program dedicated to the adaptation of comic books, graphic novels and serials to the big screen, continues at the Gallery of Modern Art cinemas and will feature a special GoMA COSPLAY Event on Australia Day. The Gallery’s first-ever COSPLAY event celebrates the art of ‘costume play’ and those dedicated practitioners who work tirelessly to transform themselves into their favourite characters from page and screen. Open to all ages and skill levels, the event takes place on January 26, 2012 at the Gallery of Modern Art.

O’Reilly’s Canungra Valley Vineyards invite you to join them for a fun and traditional Aussie BBQ this Australia DayWith a selection of delicious meats and salads including rib fillet steak, marinated chicken skewers, gourmet sausages, garden salads, potato salad, coleslaw and of course, traditional damper & billy tea.

Participate in or be a spectator at The Great Australia Day Swim on Thursday, January 26 2012. The Australian Unity Junior Dash for members of accredited swim schools and swim clubs now includes 9 year old’s and we will again stage Michael Klim’s MILK Celebrity Relay for corporate teams, with Olympian guests along with the 1.4 km and 5 km Open Water Swims around the Middle Brighton pier and marina to the beach.

St Kilda Surf Lifesaving Club is having surf boat racing on Australia Day and the public are invited to come along and watch. The Navy will be attending event and will have a vessel in the water, and activities on the beach next to the racing venue. The Navy Recruits will have a tent set up with displays and giveaways.
