What’s on this weekend – January 21 and 22

School holiday activities continue this weekend with lots of fun and fantastic Things to Do around Australia for the whole family. Here are just some of the wonderful events we have found for you at Family Capers.

Book Launch: ‘Queenie: One Elephant’s Story’ at Melbourne Zoo  – At 2 PM On Sunday 22nd January 2012, Minister for the Environment, The Hon. Ryan Smith will launch the first paperback edition of Queenie’s unforgettable story, Queenie: One Elephant’s Story, at Melbourne Zoo. Entry is free for children under 16 and Zoos Victoria Members.

Free general entry for kids these school holidays at Museum Victoria! Enjoy Live daily performances of Tiddalik the Thirsty Frog at Melbourne Museum and get hands-on with dinosaur bones in a live daily show, design your own dinosaur puppet, and discover what it’s like to be a palaeontologist in an interactive workshop at Scienceworks.

The kids will love the Yayoi Kusama: Look Now, See Forever  and  we miss you magic land exhibitions which continue in Brisbane at The Gallery of Modern Art.

Latin Friday Nights and  the Queen Street Mall Kids Comedy Festival continue  In Brisbane City this weekend!

Kids Wide Eyed For Free Film Fest – The Little Darlings NIGHT OWLS Kids Film Fest screens over 14 nights (10 – 23 January, 2012). Kids can bring their mums, dads, brothers, sisters, grandparents and friends for some free summer family fun kicking off at 6:45pm every night.

Find lots of activities for the kids as Sydney’s best school holiday program Kids in the Park continues at Sydney Olympic Park this weekend.

Free Movies by the Boulevard this weekend at  Cathy Freeman Park  –  enjoy Kung Fu Panda 2 on  Saturday and  Short Soup on Sunday. On Saturday enjoy kid’s activities presented by the Starlight Children’s Foundation, through a simple gold coin donation.

Complimentary Cooking Classes For Kids – InterContinental Sydney is cooking up some fun in January, inviting children to be chefs for the day with cupcake decorating and cookie making, while parents enjoy lunch or dinner in Cafe Opera.

The 11th annual Tathra Wharf2Waves Ocean Swim will be held this weekend on the  Sapphire Coast. This great swim, from the iconic Tathra Wharf to the beach, offers two courses (600m and 1200m) and is open to all ages, providing you are fit enough to do it! The weekend also offers a 30km Bega to Beach Bike Ride and a two-kilometre Tathra Beach Fun Run, so there is something for everyone.

Bring the family down to Shark Beach, Nielsen Park on Sunday and try your hand at building the best sand-castle or sand-sculpture  in the  Shark Beach Sand Sculpture Competition for Kids.  Prizes are awarded for the best sculpture.
